How Does Smoothie Diet Help in Losing Weight Safely?

If your diet consists of only drinking smoothies then it is probably not the best way to lose weight. It is a great way to get fruits and vegetables into your system but to rely solely on smoothies would get to be a little bit boring and your stomach does need solid foods to digest to keep your system working correctly.

So the best way to get the most benefit out of the smoothie diet is to combine it with another type of diet that promotes healthy eating and using smoothies as an easy way to consume multiple fruits in one sitting. When you drink a smoothie that has a good amount of fruit in it, you will be improving your energy levels while feeling full for at least an hour or two.

The great thing about smoothies is that you can get very creative and experiment with each one. There are no set rules so you can try different flavors, fruits and liquids that you add to it. Some people like to add vanilla soy milk instead of regular milk to cut down on fat or they use plain yogurt since there is very little sugar in that.

Another trick so that you don't have to add ice which ends up making your smoothie taste watered down is to freeze the fruit that you use and that will chill your smoothie and provide a thicker consistency. It is also best to invest in a good blender because you will taste the difference when you compare it to using a cheaper model.

Present Day Nutrition; Benefits Of Contemporary Day Food Intake

Have you ever noticed that nowadays food tastes pretty much the same, regardless of where you are in the country? In the old days that would not have been the case: the same food cooked in different houses would have a different taste. But since nowadays our foods mostly come out of cans or packets, the taste has become uniform and from the same source.

The growing self-consciousness has brought about the fact that many people today just eat the foods they believe to be good for them. They have no interest in eating foods that are necessary for their bodies, their age or their disposition.

A diversity of problems may arise from that as they grow older and more and more the body lacks essential nutrients. Sooner or later the body will turn on itself and make it obvious that things will have to change, thus limiting the ability of the person to eat whatever they want. Contemporary nutrition has nothing to do with the foods of our parents.

Vegetarians

Other people let particular reasons like health, ethics or many other reasons take control of their eating habits. They limit themselves to certain kinds of contemporary foods. They are known as vegetarians because they have freely chosen to dispense with any foods that are of an animal source, be it meat, eggs, milk etc.

Herbal Supplement, Food and Drug Interactions

The advent of the new millennium has brought significant advancements in the field of medicine where treatment has become more sophisticated. Recently, however, there seems to be a steady rise in the popularity of herbal products and dietary supplements among health-conscious individuals in today’s modern world. Although the use of herbs has been a traditional practice since ancient times, the efficacy of certain plants and its extracts in curing various ailment such as stomach pain, headache, skin infections, as well as the treatments of wounds have remained popular to those who cannot afford the high cost of modern medicine. Others simply advocate the “go natural” idea as a healthier option for preventive and therapeutic purposes. Besides, even herbal medicines are no longer limited to the traditional fresh or dried plants but now come in the form of tablets, capsules, powders, or as teas.

Drugs and Herbal Medicines

Prescription and non-prescription drugs are chemical substances that can cure and reduce the symptoms of an illness and have powerful ingredients interacting with the human body in different ways. Different lifestyles have a way of influencing the efficacy and ability of certain drugs to work in the body. Foods, beverages, alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, and herbal supplements may cause drug interaction by reducing the efficacy of the medicine or it may lead to serious side effects.

Herbal medicines may be effective in treating and curing many health problems. However, they must be taken properly and with caution to ensure safety and avoid possible drug interactions. Herbal products are not regulated for purity and potency and are not tested with the scientific rigor required of conventional drugs. Its manufacturers are not required to submit proof of safety and efficacy to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in order to market their products. Thus, the adverse effects and drug interactions which may be associated with herbal medicines caused by impurities such as allergens and pollen are largely unknown. Moreover, some herbal products have high potency which may increase the possibility of its ill effects. Therefore, herbal products are not supposed to be marketed for the diagnosis, treatment, cure and/or prevention of disease. In fact, the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 enables these products to include in the labels statements about their alleged effects on the human body such as alleviation of fatigue or how they can help in promoting the general well-being of a person such as mood enhancement. These declared effects of herbal products have been analyzed and are proven to resemble claims of clinical efficacy for various diseases and conditions.

Side Effects of Herbal Remedies

Herbal products are widely available without a need for any prescription. And there are people who fail to inform their doctors about the supplements they are taking. Medical guidance is necessary to avoid potential drug interactions such as the following:
Gingko Biloba Extract is widely known to be a brain booster which aids a lot of students and professionals in enhancing memory functions. However, it has been reported to be causing spontaneous bleeding, and interacts with anti-coagulants and anti-platelet agents. St. John’s Wort, advertised as a treatment for depression, has been implicated to be cause an increase in the level of serotonin, dopamine and neropinephrine. Though it does not interact with foods that contain tyramine, it should not be used with prescription antidepressants. Herbal products containing ephedrine have been linked to adverse cardiovascular attacks, seizures, and deaths. Ginseng, popularly known for its physical and psychological effects, is generally well-accepted and tolerated but is reported to cause decreased response to warfarin.

This is the reason why physicians should be aware of their patient’s dietary supplement use. Herbal supplements have become so popular that physicians need to ask questions about its use by their patients as part of the medical history.

Food Poisoning: Tips to Keep Your Family Safe

A century ago, food-borne diseases such as typhoid fever and cholera were common. Even though improvements in food safety have conquered these illnesses, many food-borne diseases are still causing harm today.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 76 million cases of food-borne disease occur each year in the U.S. The most commonly recognized food-borne diseases are those caused by salmonella and campylobacter. Together, these bacteria cause 80 percent of the illnesses and 75 percent of the deaths associated with meat and poultry products. Seafood is a leading cause of food-borne illness.

“With properly treated seafood and poultry, and a little food safety know-how, consumers can greatly decrease their chances of dangerous food contamination,” said Aaron Ormond, a microbiologist and director of research at Global Food Technologies, a company that produces technology instrumental to food safety.

Ormond offers the following tips to keep your family safe from potentially fatal food-borne illnesses:

* Check color, odor and texture. When purchasing chicken, its coloring should be pink, not gray or yellow. Fish meat should be shiny and firm, not easily separated from the bone and have a fresh, mild smell.

* Inspect the package. Purchase meat and seafood that has received an anti-pathogen treatment that doesn’t alter the food’s color, smell, taste or appearance, such as those offered by Global Food Technologies. Be sure to avoid products that have outlived their “sell-by” dates or have dents or tears in their packaging.

Food Labeling: Why You Need It

Food labeling is an essential way of protecting your health. Although you do not realize it every time you pick up a jar of peanut butter, someone has had to determine just what is in that jar and what it will do to you if you should consume it. For most healthy people, eating anything they like seems fine. They don?t feel bad and nor do they think twice about it. But, the problem with this is that people can become sick overtime based on the foods that they eat. The food labeling?s job is to help to reduce the amount of illnesses that happen based on providing knowledge to individuals about what they are consuming.

You will find a wealth of information on food labels. You?ll find information such as which vitamins and minerals are in the foods as well as how much of that should you be consuming. You?ll also find food labeling takes a hard look at the bad stuff too. How much cholesterol, fat, sodium are in foods is measured and recorded in this manner as well. Going even further, food labeling will tell you how many calories are in foods as well as how much a serving of the food is. All of this information is mandatory for foods that are sold in the United States to be listed.

It is up to the consumer to pay attention though and act on what the food labels have on them. That means it is necessary for the individual to flip the product over and find out what is in the box, can, or other container. If the consumer doesn?t do this, he or she is risking his/her own health.

How To Start Teaching Exercises and Lifting Weights for Children?

If you have a child of 6 to 8 years old that wants to start exercising and lifting weights, you may find yourself wondering what you should do. While some think it is perfectly fine for children to exercise, there are others that think differently.

The long and short of it is that yes, it is beneficial for your child to partake in exercise or a weight training regimen although there are a few things that you should keep in mind once this starts to happen.

No matter how you look at it, children aren’t minature adults and therefore you can’t use the same methods with growing children that you can use with adults, as children are different from adults emotionally, anatomically, and physiologically.

All children have immature skeletons, as their bones don’t mature until they get 14 – 22 years of age. With girls, exercise during childhood can have very critical effects on bone health that can last for their entire lives.

Children are often times vulnerable to growth related overuse injuries such as Osgood schlatter disease. Children have immature temperature regulation systems due to their having a large surface area compared to their muscle mass which will cause them to be more susceptible to injury when they aren’t properly warmed up.

Alkaline Foods in the pH Miracle Diet Can Make Cancer Cells Die

The main concept behind the pH miracle diet is to maintain a balance of pH in the foods that you eat. The human body is slightly alkaline and therefore it is better for your health to eat a diet composed of alkalizing foods. When you eat too many acidic foods, your system becomes unbalanced and it can cause a whole host of problems, including weight gain, poor concentration, fatigue and depressed immunity that can lead to more serious conditions.

The pH miracle diet relies on lists of foods that are acidic (to be avoided) and alkalizing (to be emphasized). The alkalizing foods are better for your health and help to balance the pH of your body. While acid, alkaline and pH are common terms, many people do not understand exactly what they mean and what they have to do with nutrition and health.

The word “basic” comes from the Greek word “basis” which means foundation. “Basic” relates to the properties of acidity and alkalinity. These conditions are determined at the foundation of the cells that the foods are made up of. So an external treatment does not change a food from acid to alkaline. Foods are acid or alkaline at their base, or foundation.

Acid and alkaline are chemical opposites. Whenever these bases interact with acids, there is a struggle between them and salt is the result. In the chemist’s lab, these interactions are very simple and straightforward. However, in our bodies, the interaction becomes more complex because of the scale at which acids and bases meet.

But a lot of people make the mistake of ignoring exercise. The newly released Atkins food pyramid shows the importance of exercise. It shows an increase in food options with increased activity. Exercise is important on the Atkins diet, and important for everyone’s overall health.

Exercise is beneficial to body, mind and soul. It has many major benefits, even at limited levels. It not only burns fat but it boosts your metabolism and increases circulation. Daily exercise helps your body eliminate toxins through sweat glands and lymph systems. It is especially important to all low-carb weight loss programs because it regulates blood sugar levels.

Physical exercise is essential for Atkins diet success. Without exercise, your body isn’t configured to process carbohydrates successfully. This means that exercise doesn’t only help you lose weight, it will help you keep it off too. Exercise will teach your body how to process the carbohydrates in your diet. When you exercise regularly, you’ll be able to eat more carbohydrates over time because your body will use them efficiently.
